Earth Day, first introduced in 1969, is recognized as a global event to support environmental awareness and education.
Here on the North Shore, there are a number of activities taking place, starting this weekend and culminating on April 22 – Earth Day:

In Deerfield...

In Deerfield, The Deerfield Public Library hosts Earth Day kids’ activities and demonstrations at the Deerfield Public Library.

In Glenview, the Air Station Prairie hosts “Celebrate Earth Day” with kids’ activities and tips on turning your home green.

The Glen Town Center has a series of family-friendly events all day during its Earth Day Celebration, including a “wicked” story time, pretzel twisting, paper bag couture, and theater!

In Lake County – Grayslake...

In Grayslake: Rhe Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) and Waste Management Recycle America are hosting a "Earth Day for Everyone" Open House. Learn why recycling and waste reduction are important. There’ll be facility tours, hands-on activities, prizes, lectures and exhibits.

Deerfield Whole Foods Market and “Bee Green!” The first 50 kids will receive free Whole Foods canvas tote bags, and free tree planter starter kits.

4 - 5 p.m., Heller Nature Center naturalist Liza Fischel will be on hand to teach kids about the world of the honeybee.
