Head Outside For A Carnival!
The fresh air will keep you alert and safeguarded from the cabin
fever!

Glencoe's Winter Carnival has a number of great events, including a
hockey shootout, skating competitions, prizes, ice sculpting and
face painting. There'll be refreshments on site as well!

Northfield's Winter Carnival will include a chili cook-off, saucer
races, skating, children's entertainment, face painting, and if by
some miracle we have enough snow on the ground, a family snow
sculpture contest!

Our Recommendations for Martin Luther King Day

Northwestern University will feature two keynote speakers:
Alexis M. Herman, former U.S. Secretary of Labor, and Northwestern
alumna Eva Jefferson Paterson, the president and founder of the
Equal Justice Society. They will be the featured speakers on the
Evanston campus at Northwestern University's 2008 commemoration of
the life and legacy of the late civil and human rights leader Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.

The annual Candlelight Vigil is Northwestern's longest-running
observance and has been hosted for more than 20 years by the Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, the late Dr. King's fraternity.

7 pm: Paterson's talk will take place during the Candlelight Vigil

MLK Day Movie

In 1960, Ruby became the first black student at a formerly
all-white elementary school. This film first appeared on the Disney
Channel and dramatizes her story. Not rated; recommended for ages 7 and up.

Bring your pillows to relax on the floor, and bring your own
non-messy snacks if you wish (no chips, popcorn, or drinks, please).
Cookies and water will be provided.

Thespians, Here's Your Fix?

Evanston's Piven Theater has a great one-act improv performance
called "Storybox."

Storybox is a fresh and beautifully crafted one-act theatre
production that creates a single story from multiple sub-stories.
After the audience makes a suggestion, this inspired, sophisticated
ensemble brings the audience along on an epic journey created right
in front of your eyes!

Recommended for everyone ages 10 and up.

Last weekend it was the blues.
This weekend it's Jazz, baby.

The 31st Annual North Shore Jazz Fest is this weekend at
Glenbrook South High School. It's an all-day event, and a great
chance to catch some great local jazz acts!

Silence Is Golden

Go see "The General" to witness an imaginative masterpiece of
comedy, often regarded as one of the greatest silent comedies
(and Keaton's own favorite) - and arguably the best train film
ever made.

This Civil War adventure-epic classic was created towards the end of
the silent era (1927), with posters describing this slapstick flick
as "Love, Locomotives and Laughs."

This weekend at the Wilmette Theatre with a bonus of live piano
music by David Drazin.

Get Better Behind The Wheel

required, but there's no age requirement to attend, so anyone with
