North Shore Chicago Theater Spotlight
A Rock-and-Roll Adventure
Released in 1969, the rock-opera Tommy, based on the album and composed by legendary guitarist Pete Townshend, became the first concept album of its kind, chronicling the story of a young man whose life is forever altered and defined by a terrible act of violence, all amidst a backdrop of gritty power chords. With a Tony-award winning score that “lifts the audience right out of its seats” and a rock-concert staging, Jeff Award-nominated third-year MFA directing student Geoff Button brings the story of Tommy to light in a new, electrifying way.

Celebrate Black History Month
“AfriCOBRA and the Chicago Black Arts Movement” exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, February 12, with keynote speaker Michael Harris, AfriCOBRA member and associate professor of history and African American studies at Emory University. This is the first exhibition in decades to bring together many of the most famous artworks created in the early years of AfriCOBRA, a black art collective.

Do Valentine’s Day "Wright"
As part of a series of Frank Lloyd Wright house concerts, enjoy a Valentine themed music performance at the Glore House, a 1951 home in Lake Forest. Performance includes baritone Ben Copel followed by a presentation of contemporary music by pianist and composer Sebastian Huydts. Proceeds will benefit the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture's campus in Spring Green, Wis. Concerts. Champagne and Valentine's Day treats will be served. Quick and Easy Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Make this delicious and romantic dessert for Valentine’s Day or any time you have a hankering for a sweet treat on the quick!
Ingredients
- 16 ounces milk chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
Directions
- Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.
- In a double boiler, melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Holding them by the toothpicks, dip the strawberries into the chocolate mixture.
- Turn the strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into Styrofoam (from your local craft store) for the chocolate to cool.
