Beat Street
Ever Bored?
Guaranteed Your Cure is at Beat Street
(Plus… the ultimate fixings for camp care packages and b-day goodie bags)
I told Julie Windsor, owner of Beat Street (in Hubbard Woods) that her store was the most fascinating experience I’d ever had.
Not true.
To clarify, the most fascinating fun I’d ever had in Winnetka – without question!
Get this, Beat Street is part modern-day general store, part toy emporium and part ultimate gift destination hot spot. Imagine, within Julie’s humble space she carries almost 13,000 items in inventory. (If I told you the exact number I might have to kill you …so go in yourself and ask Julie, Paul or Maggie and they’ll give you the most up-to-date info.)
Beat Street is seriously jammed packed with creativity and endless discoveries. In fact Julie estimated that to go through the store and check out every item would take well over two hours – the ultimate antidote to an uneventful day at school, life’s stressors and/or refuge for a dang good time.
Naturally I wanted to understand the method behind the madness so Julie gave us a tour and explained the store layout. The front “seasonal table” now features summer fun and camp items. I wanted the fold away game board but decided I couldn’t live without the Air Stream bird house. In the mid-section “Me So Pretty” and novelty gift area I spotted some wind up sushi toys plus plenty of cool tween gifts that could win points with “hard to pleasers”. The back is for Beat Street Fashionistas. Way cool T-shirts, bags, clothes and pj’s lead the way to a selection of retro-edibles any kid and/or baby boomer would have to sample. We’re talking old fashioned dots, taffy sticks, and other true simple pleasures.
Finally I wanted to see how Beat Street takes their goodies and puts them to good use.
Voila…
Beat Street puts together outstanding birthday goodie bags and of course can supply you with the most original and amazing fixings for THE BEST CAMP care packages too.
No mistaking it…Beat Street marches to the beat of its own drum so be mindful of their hours of operation and allow yourself plenty of time to explore these treasures from off the beaten path.
