A woman can always be a girl but a girl can never be a woman. And, a woman always, always, always needs her girlfriends to do girly-girl things with. I was in need of some girly love while in Evanston and serendipitously landed at the Benefit Cosmetic boutique. Talk about being at the right place at the right time...

From the moment I walked in, there was a warm welcome surrounded by plenty of fun and games. I knew I was home. I asked for a quick primp in preparation for my evening plans. Without hesitation I was offered a seat, a mirror to hold, and then asked a few thoughtful questions about what I wanted.

I had never been or even seen a Benefit Cosmetic boutique. No wonder. The Evanston boutique is the second to those outside those thirty years in the making in and around San Francisco. The first is in Chicago located at Halstead and Armitage.

Girl Scout's honor, this is no ordinary makeup. This line started by twins Jane and Jean Ford is part kitsch, part retro and all glam. According to the Jessica the boutique proprietor, Benefit products fall into two categories - fix it or fake its.

Fix its like "boo boo zap" and "Dr. Feelgood" provide efficacious solutions to common problems. Fake its, like "some kind-a gorgeous", the amazing foundation faker and "rush hour" -- go from zero to gorgeous in 10 seconds, offer the kind of beauty enhancements loads of women want but are not likely to describe - especially like this!

After 15 minutes tops, I walked out feeling revived and refreshed. My little aqua shopping bag included my purchase of Hollywood Glo a fake it - complexion highlighter that came highly recommended plus some samples I couldn't wait to try.
