Best Public Golf Spots On Chicago’s North Shore
Looking for a place to tee off this season? We’ve got you covered – here’s all you need to know about some of the best public courses on the North Shore:
Evanston
What we like:
It’s one of the few things in Evanston that has free parking!
The Frank Govern Memorial Golf Course is located just of Central Street adjacent to Evanston Northwestern Hospital.
It’s really affordable (read: cheap!), with a Par-60 executive layout.

Deerfield
What we like:
A lunch bucket special! Yep – the practice range offers up a medium bucket of balls, beverage and a brat for just $12! The Deerfield Golf Club offers duffers a par-72 course ranging from 5,000 - 6,800 yards. The course is convenient to I-294, making it very accessible as well.

Northbrook
What we like:
Northbrook has recently completed a major renovation of it’s 9-hole course at Anetsberger. With new tees added to create holes between 60 - 120 yards, it’s an excellent course to learn to play the game, or take kids.
Sportsmans Country Club, off Dundee Rd., is convenient to I-294 and offers a great super-twilight deal. Unrelated to the Park District.
Willowhill Golf and Academy is also located in Northbrook – a 9-hole, par-35 Scottish-links style course along Willow Rd. with a spectacular view of Chicago’s skyline, from 100 feet up!

Glenview
What we like:
Glenview has two excellent public golf options:
The National 9 and Glenview Park Golf Club. What’s really nice about the par-31 National 9? It’s right across the street from the much ballyhooed Glen Club, which hosts a professional Nationwide Tour event every year. Because of its proximity, Glen Club greenskeepers also take tender care of the National 9. The National 9 is also right around the corner from the Glen Town Center, offering up some tasty dining options for after the game, and shopping opportunities if there’s a few non-duffers in the crowd.
Glenview Park Golf Club is the village’s 18-hole, par-70 option, with yardage ranging from 4,900 - 6,100. It’s also home to The Cafe – a full-service restaurant (al fresco dining or air conditioned relaxation!), pro shop and clubhouse.

Skokie
What we like:
Skokie’s public options trend toward family fare, with everything from a professional 9-hole, Par-3 course to adventure gold and a Top 100 driving range at Sports Park (heated stalls!).
Weber Park Golf Course is a 9-hole par-3 option that offers a great opportunity to work on your short game at a very reasonable rate, while kids can tackle either Kids’ Quest or Traveler’s Quest, two awesome mini-/adventure golf courses.

Wilmette
What we like:
Lake perch every Friday night! Seriously, Wilmette Golf Club has an awesome restaurant, in addition to its clubhouse and pro shop specials. Located conveniently off Lake Ave in west Wilmette, Wilmette Golf Club is a par-70 course, ranging from about 4,800 to 6,000 yards and offers discounted spring rates – about $6 – $8 cheaper than summer fees.

Lake Forest
What we like:
The Deerpath Golf Course is one of the oldest public courses in the United States – and was rehabbed in 2005 to improve sand traps, irrigation, water quality, the wildlife habitat and aesthetics. They’ve also introduced reduced fees for mid-afternoon play, and are also working to completely renovate the women’s locker room this year.
