The Highwood BluesBowl 2008
Feeling those post holiday, back to work blues?
Don’t fight it, celebrate it!
This time of year can feel very anti-climactic. The holidays are over, the break is finished, the snow is slushy and the sky, familiar January Chicago gray.
In fact, who’d have thought the Blues could actually brighten things up?
Bob Axelrod did when he put together the Live Blues fundraiser, Chicago SuperBlues Bowl.
That’s because Bob Axelrod’s goal is to raise a lot of green stuff, so he can help tell the golden truth about the future of Blues stuff in his a documentary film called Bluesified.
But first a little more about the event:
Grab a pen and write this down…
The Chicago SuperBlues Bowl event is this Saturday night, January 12th at The Alley in Highwood.
But what makes this event so special is the range and caliber of its performers.
We’re talking living legends like Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials along with Honeyboy Edwards – in his 90’s.
In addition to these headliners the event also features other sensational Blues performances by Tom Holland, Toronzo Cannon and the Cannonball Express, Chico Banks, Tom Crivellone, Chainsaw Dupont and Andre Howard.
Click here to catch a sample ditty from bluesman Tom Crivellone.
As if that wasn’t enough this party (with appetizers included in the cost of admission) also includes a silent auction, plus a Best of Blues Club Showcase and jam session. No worries bring the kids; it’s an all-family event offering bowling in between sets and a cash bar.
Here’s a run down of the nite:

For those with an eye for film in addition to an ear for music, money raised for this event will go towards the development of the documentary film Bluesified. This non profit film focuses on the state and cinematic exploration of Blues music as a potentially endangered American art form. For this project Bob Axelrod teams with The Blues Foundation and Center For Independent Documentary.
