Deerfield’s Bakes Up A Recipe For Earth Day

Deerfield’s Bakes Up A Special Recipe For Earth Day

Deerfield’s Bakery has been around longer than just about any North Shore business – 122 years to be exact – but that doesn’t mean that they’re not hip to what’s going on.

In fact, some of the latest initiatives have been sparked by one of the younger family members, Tim Schmitt the current owner and 5th generation member. Not too long ago, Tim pioneered in the Dear Joe line of Deerfield’s home roasted coffees and beans and now he’s all warm on green.

Check out these latest steps Deerfield’s Bakery (in its three locations) is making:
  1. Starting April 22, the bakery put its new energy efficiency program into place. During the late morning and early afternoon, unnecessary lights will be turned off and machines powered down.
  2. Wave a bakery bye bye to Styrofoam and other petroleum based plastic packaging…these will be completely eliminated by 2009.
  3. Implementing a greater awareness to reducing waste and adding in more recycling efforts.

On Earth Day, April 22nd Deerfield’s will donate 15% of their new products to the World Wildlife Fund. And, what for you… a free 12oz. coffee in an Eco-tainer cup, which is not only recyclable, but also made from 100% renewable recourses – the first of it’s kind.

That same week, look for Deerfield’s latest introduction of a Gluten-Free cookies line also available for mail-order. With each mail order, Deerfields will donate to the carbonfund.org.

Free samples of their Gluten-Free products will be available at all three stores.

Finally, don’t miss the vouchers for a free reusable Deerfields Bakery shopping bags, good with qualified purchases and scheduled for release in the next 30 days, replacing unfriendly single-use plastic bags.

Oh, one other nod…for us computer geeks…Deerfield’s Buffalo Grove now has free Wi-Fi!

Nicely Done Deerfields!
