Deerfield's Bakery
Deer Joe...
Congratulations and welcome to Deerfield’s Bakery
Think of Deerfield’s Bakery as a North Shore classic. Since 1886, that’s 121 years ago, Deerfield Bakery started creating signature cakes, pies, donuts, sweet rolls donuts and of course cookies.
Today with three locations and an astounding collection of baked items including over 400 varieties of cookies and over 2,000 custom cake designs ranging from birthday, holiday, kids, wedding and even X-rated – it’s insane to even entertain the thought of how they could add even one more item. But alas, that’s when Tim Schmidtt, owner of Deerfield’s had eureka moment -- after all, what would coffee cake be without coffee?
And so, Joe was born. Deer Joe that is. The coffee chef character and branded line of Deerfield coffees. Deer Joe beans are roasted at Deerfield’s and are of the fair trade* and Organic** variety.
The line includes four Deer Joe dark and handsome options:
NoJoe: Caffeine-free, with a full-bodied Sumatra and hazelnut aroma and light sweet flavor.
LoJoe: Mellow with a hint of kick, this El Salvadorian joe keeps you on your hoofs with toasted aromas and a lighthearted flavor.
GoJoe: Full bodied and with gusto, this spirited Nicaraguan variety kick starts your day with nutty aromas and a sunny flavor.
MoJoe: For the caffeine lover, this jolt of high-test Sumatra delivers aromas of baker’s chocolate and a distinct sassy flavor.
Enjoy a cup in the bakery or swig out of one of their forest-friendly to-go cups.
If you want be a model citizen bring your own non-disposable, refillable coffee cup in for 20 cents off your Deer Joe each time you visit (based on regular servings of 12, 16, and 20 ounces).
Finally, if making friends at the office or pulling an all nighter what you’re hunting for, get the 96 ounce recyclable container or go old-fashion and grab the bagged beans and brew your own – that’s what I did, thanks to bag Tim and his team at Deerfield’s gave me!
*Fair trade means the coffee bought comes from growers whose hard work is justly rewarded. The price Deerfield’s pays for coffee also allows growers to use agricultural practices that protect the environment as well as provide the building blocks for community improvement.
**Organic means things that shouldn’t be in your coffee; pesticides and herbicides, aren’t. Everyone (ecosystems, workers and you) are spared exposure to less than savory chemicals.
