Dunkin Robbins

For some, Starbucks is a second home
For us, it’s Dunkin Robbins

by Michael Biegel

It’s a Friday Night and you’re sitting shotgun with two or more bored and stressed out friends in the backseat. Four open cell phones rest in hand as every one has already exhausted their contact list three times. As if rehearsed, you stare at each other and exclaim, “We’re going to Dunkin!”

Almost every Friday and Saturday night, the parking lot is jammed with us “wild and crazy” teens looking to hang out. Parents – you might be thinking, why not just hang out in somebody’s basement or see a movie. Well you obviously haven’t experienced the late night Dunkin Robbins experience.

Personally, I visited my “second home” at Dunkin Robbins almost every weekend of my high school career. Whether it’s two friends and me who have the extreme munchies for some munchkins or the pack of high schoolers, Dunkin Robbins is always good time. All too often you find yourself in a situation where none of your friends are willing to have a lot of people over, as most North Shore parents don’t appreciate us loudies in the kitchen late at night. So, we beam the party to the Dunkin Robbins parking lot. Whoever has the killer sound system pops his/her trunk and the hopping party begins. It’s an amazing and ideal alternative to driving around and wasting gas on a boring night.

The appeal of Dunkin Robbins isn’t just in the fact that you can host a party in the parking lot. Nina Riccardi, a freshman at Indiana University-Bloomington, recalls her high-school experiences: “I always went to Dunkin late at night for the egg, cheese and ham bagel sandwich. It’s soooo good!” The food really is the number one draw at this late night stop. And, if you’re driving down Route 41 and in need of a sugar intervention, try the Oreo Blast. If your stomach is moaning and groaning for real food fill it with a hearty breakfast sandwich on a soft croissant bun.

So, if you are ever feeling some late night munchies and interested in hanging stop by the 24-hour Dunkin Robbins drive thru on the corner of Park Avenue and Route 41 in Highland Park. You may end up having more fun hanging out in the parking lot than if there was a party to attend.
