O Loves M Handbags
Why you shouldn’t ignore your business ideas! Find out how this yoga class idea made its way to the Sundance Film Festival
The OlovesM Story
The Idea:
Originally from Highland Park, Merle Jablin O’Brien caught the "out west bug" that brought her to Aspen 24 years ago. As she tells it, she was in a downward dog and a great idea flash for a eco-friendly bag design came to her. She actually left the class and wrote her idea down.
The Execution:
Merle immediately went home -- took some duct tape, some plastic bags and a few other materials, and whipped up her first really strange prototype of a unique looking bag. That was the start and since then she’s been hooked and crazy making all kinds of really hip, fun and sassy bags.
What’s So Great About Them
The best part about Merle’s bags is that they’re helping the Earth--about 85% of her materials are or were headed for landfills. In fact, she’s have given them a new home--www.olovesm.com check'em out!!
What does OlovesM mean?? When you put the O and M together, it is OM for what we chant in yoga!
What Merle shared is that when you come up with crazy, exciting ideas, you'11 believe in--all kinds of interesting things follow!

- First, it was in a bathroom in Utah. This girl went crazy over her bag, and just happened to have a friend in Hollywood, who emailed Merle, and from that email--- her bags ended up being the official Swag bag for a benefit honoring Aretha Franklin- for the United Negro College Fund.
- Then her bags were chosen to go to the Sundance Film Fest in Park City, since they were so eco-friendly!!!
- Now they are headed out to Telluride for a big fashion show and will be hanging with top designers.
Merle admits that a lot of my friends were thought she was crazy, since she has boxes everywhere in her house; of fabric, webbing, hardware, you name it.
Best of all Merle loves what she’s created, and plans to get the OlovesM bags to the North Shore very soon!! For now go to her website and make sure to look her up if you are in Aspen!
