Summer Squeeze
Summer Squeeze – How to Enjoy Every Last Minute of Summer
Okay... we finally got our 90 degree days with 90% humidity. It’s officially (finally) summer in Chicago. But soon the kids will be back in school, sunset will come early and summer hours at the office will be a faint memory.
- What can you do to enjoy these last precious sunny days and lovely evenings?
- Set up the tent in the backyard and have a family camp out. Tell ghost stories, cook hot dogs and s’mores (over a grill, please, not a bonfire!), and have real conversations.
- Rent a snow cone machine from a party store and have the neighbors over. If your kids are complaining about their back-to-school funds being cut, let the little entrepreneurs charge a small fee. This beats a lemonade stand any day.
- Plan to take a walk each evening after dinner and do it!
- Ride your bike everywhere possible for a week. You’ll feel great, look great, and appreciate the wheels you take for granted.
- Two words: Yard Sale! Get the urge to purge, and put the earnings away for a tropical trip when winter hits.
- Make the time to eat outside during the work day. Hit a grassy knoll or bench near your office with a coworker or good book.
- Plan a daytime date with your squeeze. Rent a sailboat or kayak at the beach, or go roller blading – anything outdoors.
- Share your vegetable garden bounty with your neighbors and send a care package to your kid’s new teacher. Bribery by vegetable is completely legal.
- Get those highlights done in your hair one last time. Carry a little bit of summer sassy into the fall.
Don’t put your summer fun off until tomorrow; These days are to be coveted. We’ll be shoveling and salting before you know it!
