Which Peanuts Character Are You?
In honor of the 43rd anniversary of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” determine which Peanuts character you most resemble. Or are you a mix of several? Pigpen has been omitted for obvious reasons. You PPs know who you are.
Lucy
A take-no-prisoners kind of gal, Lucy is smart, outspoken, cynical and frequently ill-tempered, but there’s a warm underbelly there. She works hard for her money (The Doctor is in. 5 cents please.) and can take care of herself. But she does have a romantic side, and of course she’s a sucker for those brooding, artistic types like Schroeder. Perhaps she sees in him qualities that are absent in her, or that she is reluctant to show, lest she make herself vulnerable. For all her outward self-assurance, Lucy has a thin-skin and is not immune to needing praise and acceptance from others. She’s not what you’d call a “giver” but she does have fleeting moments of genuine kindness and generosity. Lucy needs a partner that challenges her, but who can also indulge (or turn a deaf ear on) her rants when necessary.
Linus
Linus is definitely the passive sibling to Lucy’s dominance and has some major insecurity issues. But don’t underestimate Linus, he’s a deep thinker, the philosopher of the Peanuts gang. Linus is the frequent victim of Lucy’s tirades, but as opposed to trying to beat her at her own game, approaches his sister with carefully thought out stealth attacks of sarcasm and reality checks. Linus is a loyal friend and confidant, and although embarrassed by Sally’s lavish affections for him, will make a kind and open-hearted partner for the right mate that draws him out and inspires him to take a more active role.
Sally
The consummate baby of the family, Sally is a chill kind of gal. She likes to hang out in her bean bag chair and watch the tube. She’d be a huge reality TV fan today. She sees no reason to work very hard, and although intelligent, loses interest in things quickly; except, of course, Linus. Despite his rejection of her, her infatuation is unyielding and she pursues him at every opportunity. This project she works hard at. Sally needs a purpose. She could benefit greatly from something or someone to kick her in the rear and encourage her to develop a true passion. She could use a mentor in life and love.
Peppermint Patty
PP is the tom boy and athlete of the group. Despite her frequent misunderstandings of situations - even the most basic concepts - she is quite outspoken in her views. She puts her foot in her mouth a lot. She seems to walk around in a bit of a fog, but it doesn’t bother her one bit and overall she is a good-natured soul. PP is a good pal (puts up with Marcie calling her “sir” all the time) but more of a confider than a confidant. She has a crush on Charlie Brown, and uses reverse psychology rather than girlish gushing to try to win his affections. She’s an odd duck, but good fun. Her perfect partner is someone a little “out there” and eccentric like she is.
Charlie Brown
CB carries around the heavy weight of all the injustices of the world. He has such a good heart, but just can’t seem to come out on top. The “loveable loser” is self-aware to a fault but can’t seem to shake his insecurities long enough to be the person he knows he can be. He’s an eternal optimist but with a constant cloud hanging over his head. He’s good to his sister, his friends and his pup, but often feels taken advantage of for his generosity. CB is definitely a romantic, but again feels like he just can’t get a break. Chuck needs to buck up and create his own good luck. He needs a partner who will challenge him to be the person he wants to be, but who is understanding of his insecurities along the way.
Schroeder
The lone wolf, tortured musician and consummate bachelor of the group. He’s a good friend and a good listener, though a man of little words. Schroeder is serious about his music, and obsessed with Beethoven to the point of believing he needs to remain single to emulate his hero. But there’s something about that Lucy that gets to him. She’s loud and obnoxious and obvious with her affections. Me thinks Schroeder doth protest too much, and would actually benefit from a bit of extroversion and outlandish behavior to balance him out.
Snoopy
Snoopy can be a loyal friend, but also has a fierce independent streak and rich fantasy life. Whether he’s piloting his doghouse plane as the Red Baron, drafting the great American novel on his typewriter or just chilling out in his Joe Cool sunglasses, there’s never a dull moment…in his head at least. He’s a restless sort, and when he comes back down to reality, he’s just not quite satisfied with his lot in life. He’s generous with Charlie Brown, but not past the point of his own comfort and he and Woodstock bicker like an old married couple. He had his brushes with romance, but always comes back to his independent dreams. He needs someone to believe in him and encourage him to make his dreams reality.
