Winnetka Modernism Art Show
Who Says Winnetka Is Only For Prepsters?
Check Out The Coolest Everything at the Modernism Show.
In the day, Winnetka’s decorating style was typified by toile and other motifs symbolic of old world charm. Not that there’s anything wrong with it…classics have merit. With the 18th Annual Modernism show heading to the North Shore and being a huge Eames and Nelson fan I was curious how Winnetka could pull it off so NorthShoreInsider.com met with woman in charge,
Dee Dee Chesley, Chairwoman of the Winnetka Modernism show.
Dee Dee totally got it and helped explain why Modernism is hot even in a town still devoted to headbands and duck boots.
Simply put, it’s the cleaner lines and home designs that harkens back to the nostalgia of baby boomer childhood days. What’s more, Modernism super fun, funky, not so intense and especially these days -- highly collectible.
Thanks to one of the show dealers, Lee Thinnes of Lee’s Antiques in Winnetka we were able to check out some of the show’s treasures pre- pre-show. All exhibited items including furniture, paintings, handbags, clothing, jewelry, and other home accessories by the
40 dealers are original, many of them signed and all benefiting the Winnetka Community House. If you’re feeling the fever and want to scoop up your finds early buy your Friday night November 2nd preview party ticket now ($85 each) before the prices go up on Monday ($100 per tkt). Other wise you can purchase your show ticket at the door ($12 each) which will work for both Saturday and Sunday (November 3rd and 4th).
If shopping or collecting isn’t your thing,
you can always learn something. Liz O'Brien, author of "Ultramodern: Samuel Marx, Architect, Designer, Art Collector" will be signing books at the Preview Party and at the show. Also you can hit the Stracks-Zimmerman Lecture Series: "From Heel To Toe: The Anthology of Vintage Footwear, 1930's–1960's"
Ardis Taylor: Collector, restorer, costumer/dealer Vintage Apparel by Ardis, Oakland, CA Booth Seminars are free with a show ticket.
To say it straight, I can not wait for this show and am totally prepared to ohhh and ahhh. My only request is that they sell T-Shirts, the logo is so cool and at least there’s something I know I will walk out with!
