Bannockburn, Illinois Real Estate Agents

With a reputation for being one of the most reclusive and wealthy villages in the U.S., Bannockburn is home to many high value estates. Bannockburn real estate agents have a long, impressive list of selling points for potential buyers who are looking for both seclusion and easy access to Chicago.

The village sits in Lake County, Illinois, some 25 miles northwest of Chicago. Deerfield, Lakeforest and Highland Park are all within five miles. William Aitkins developed and designed Bannockburn to mirror his homeland of Scotland. Its nickname, "hidden jewel of the North Shore," is spot on in describing the wooded privacy of the properties there. Savvy Bannockburn real estate agents know the value of this location and the high market prices reflect just how much people are willing to pay for that.

Adding to the location value is the easy access to transportation services. Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is about 16 miles away and Midway is only 30. Amtrak has a station 9 miles away in nearby Glenview. The Tri-State toll way and Metra provide quick links from Bannockburn to the rest of the North Shore.

Besides quick access to transportation, Lake Forest Hospital is only 4 miles away and Hill Top Center in Green Oaks is a short 7 miles from the village. Bannockburn real estate agents can also point out that the elementary school is a top educational facility and the high school in Deerfield, less than 2 miles away is an excellent school as well. For higher education, Northwestern University is located in Evanston, which is about 16 miles from Bannockburn.

Subdivisions named Bannockburn Woods, Delmar Woods and Dunsinane Woods give a nod to the surroundings and contain many of the luxury homes that are typical of the village. Ryerson Conservation Area, Des Plaines River Corridor and Prairie Wolf Slough Forest Preserve can be found in nearby Deerfield. The Berkeley Prairie Forest Preserve is also only minutes away in Highland Park. These all provide a serene backdrop for the beautiful estates and homes in this village, and if you crave more nature The Chicago Botanic Garden is waiting in Glencoe.

When Bannockburn was first established, the town charter ruled that homes be built on lots of at least one acre. More recent rulings have raised that lots size must be at minimum two acres. The village had been comprised of only residential buildings, but in 1984 a commercial section was zoned and now there are businesses on the northern fringe of the community.

Bannockburn real estate agents are aware of the current trend in single-family new construction homes. For a population of just over 1,500, the village commands high prices for property and some impressive new houses are being built. According to Bannockburn real estate agents, the estimated average value of a pre-built home in Bannockburn is in the mid $900,000 range. New construction homes start from the upper $700,000 range. Past trends in home sales have been of 2 to 4 per year with an average price of $1,500,000. In an effort to keep property taxes down, the village refrains from providing a lot of town services. It does have a local police force, but contracts with Deerfield for such things as library services and emergency fire forces.

Tarns of the Moor is a new subdivision project by Orren Pickell Designers & Builders and located north of the Village Hall. The company is based in Lincolnshire and has 30 years of experience creating custom luxury homes, remodeling and vacation homes in northern Illinois, western Michigan and southern Wisconsin. Bannockburn real estate agents market these homes for anywhere from $750,000 to well over $4,000,000, with an average price of about $2,500,000 per estate.

Tarns on the Moor has 10 luxury estates featuring single-family custom built homes. With wooded lots encompassing 4 or more acres, landscaped ponds with bridges and walking paths, these homes are some of the finest in Illinois, and Bannockburn real estate agents generally have no problem finding buyers. The word "tarn" means little lakes in Scottish and Orrin Pickell has kept to the traditional feel of that country when designing these beautiful estates. These exclusive homes have attracted famous past residents looking for fantastic living spaces in secluded areas. Mike Ditka, the former Chicago Bear's head coach, the Bull's past coach Phil Jackson and the Cub's Ron Santos have made their homes in Bannockburn at one time.

With all of the natural beauty surrounding the village, quality schools, fantastic homes and Chicago just minutes away, Bannockburn real estate agents know that this really is the hidden jewel of the North Shore. All of these factors make it a great investment and a great place to live. Contact a Bannockburn real estate agent today!
