When you hear “Team CIA” you usually wouldn’t think it consisted of three very young boys.  However, it’s the truth.  Talk about something that makes a mother proud.  But the mother of boys Cole, 5, Isaac, 7 and Andrew, 7, has so many reasons to be proud of her sons.  Cole, Isaac and Andrew are three young boys who all have diabetes.  Together, they are participating in Libertyville’s 28th annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes that takes place on Sunday, October 8 at Independence Grove Forest Preserve.  The walk is 5K, and the boys are more than excited about doing it.  In fact, they are so excited that they have already raised $20,000 for the walk.  The slogan of Team CIA is “CIA boys walking for a cure.”  Pretty clever, and pretty impressive.  The teams name generated from all three of their first names.  To participate in the walk, the check-in is at 7:45 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:45 a.m. next Sunday.

This year alone, Northwestern University received 18,000 applications for admission, according to the University’s vice president for university relations, Alan Cubbage.  Roughly 5,000 students were accepted for admission and about 40 percent agreed to attend.   Founded in 1851, the University is starting its 151st year, even though the first class didn’t begin until 1855.  Students from 23 foreign countries are represented in the first-year undergraduate class.  The average SAT score of the incoming class was 1,401 and the median class rank was 94.  Quite impressive.  Northwestern is a great school that produces great graduates who go through the program with  professors who have high expectations.  Its good to know that some of the country’s smartest students are right here in the Chicago area.
