Gurnee Home Sales Slide

Monday, February 25th, 2008 by Jake

Sales of single family homes dropped during the third quarter in Gurnee. This quiet north shore neighborhood saw a total of just 98 homes sold during the quarter, according to data from the Chicago Association of Realtors.

This is a 21 percent drop in sales for the neighborhood in just one year, and is the first time sales dropped below 100 since 1992 during the fourth quarter.

The drop in demand for single family homes in Gurnee led to an increase in the number of homes sitting on the market. If you’re selling your home in the neighborhood, it will now take you an average of 126 days to find a buyer, up from 78 days a year ago.

However, despite the drop in demand for homes in Gurnee and the rise in the turnover time, prices continued to increase around the neighborhood. The average sales price during the fourth quarter posted a 6 percent increase during the third quarter to stand at just over $350,000.

Buyers could start to see lower prices if demand doesn’t pick up around the neighborhood in the next few months. Stay up to date with the latest news and statistics for the market and find great prices on North Shore Chicago Real Estate.

One Fine Day In Northbrook

Monday, February 25th, 2008 by Kelly

So – I’ve had more than one person tell me that Northbrook has a beautiful library. And the book lover I am, I thought I would blow off my weekly visit to Glenview’s digs to check it out.

As Borat would say, “Very nice!”

I know that come the next year or so, Glenview will have a fabulous new building – which is desperately needed. I took the kids last Sunday only to find the Children’s section closed due to flooding. And given that just a couple of years ago I was visiting a small branch library in mid-Michigan, my initial impression of Glenview’s facilities was one of sheer giddiness. But I have to say, for now, Northbrook is so much nicer. Airy, well -lit and set up beautifully. The kids’ section was phenomenal. Of course, it was leaps and bounds ahead of our usual haunt for the simple fact it wasn’t in the basement. The staff was very gracious as well – so helpful setting the kids up on computers, actually, dare I say it, happy to help us.

And I so like the fact my Glenview card can be used anywhere. The hard part will be making sure I don’t return the wrong books to the wrong library!

Afterward, the family and I were starving and needed to grab a quick bite. We headed over to Little Louie’s on Shermer – a great place for a quick bite! And another place we could take the kids without worrying about spilling a pop or being a little on the loud side. I bet it’s really nice in the summer, as it’s located right across from the park downtown. (Note: Will have to remember that!)

A heads up, too – Winestyles is opening a Northbrook location just down the street, on Shermer. Look for it in the next couple of months - a great place to grab a bottle of vino!
