Get Daring With Your Girls
November 28th, 2007 by KellyNeed some holiday gift ideas for kids?
I’m lucky enough to have a six-year-old daughter that loves to read, but even if she didn’t, she’s still be getting this for Christmas: “The Daring Book for Girls,” by Andrea J. Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz. It’s the follow-up to the smash, “The Dangerous Book For Boys.” And I think both books should be required reading in elementary school. Here’s why - with this book, my daughter can learn about:
Real-life princesses;
How to negotiate a salary;
The art of jacks;
How to play everything from softball to four-square;
The world of stocks and bonds;
Female spies;
Math tricks;
How to change a tire; and so much more!
Of course, there’ll be enough American Girl boxes under the tree to choke a pig, but why not throw in something that’s truly empowering and enjoyable? It’s a perfect excuse to cuddle up and read together on Christmas morning. I found it at Borders in Wilmette, but it’s available just about everywhere. Here’s a quick tip: If you haven’t signed up for Borders Rewards yet, do it. Sure, it’s a pain in the butt, and your e-mail in box will fill up with junk mail, but I was able to save 40 percent on the book with a two-day only coupon.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
