Last-Minute North Shore Prom 2008

May 15th, 2008 by Rachel

Do-it-Yourself Duct Tape Prom Dress? The end of the school year is approaching. It’s already mid-May. QUICK! HIDE! You’re not safe anywhere in the North Shore! It’s the attack of the last minute prom dress shoppers! That’s right ladies, prom season is rapidly approaching (in some cases THIS SATURDAY!) and if for whatever reason you haven’t found that perfect Cinderella ball gown yet check this out: B Beautiful (4149 Dundee Rd Northbrook, IL 60062)

This Northbrook boutique has a huge selection of THE HOTTEST prom dresses around! I know what you’re thinking…if they have the best dresses, girls from your school already went there! (GASP!) To be caught dead in the same prom dress as someone else?? What a nightmare! Don’t fear ladies, this potential humiliation will never become a reality for you! B Beautiful promises to never sell the same dress to two people of the same high school. But how is this possible one might ask? Simple. The infamous WALL!! At B Beautiful they keep an entire wall filled with the top secret information of which dresses have already been sold to the different high schools in the area. (PHEW!)
Now, if mom typically breaks out in hives when the cashier’s done ringing you up, you might try taking her somewhere else. Check out Nordstrom Rack (199 Skokie Blvd Northbrook, Il 60062) or Loehmann’s right next door (181 Skokie Blvd Northbrook, Il 60062). They’ve both got pretty big dress selections. At Nordstrom Rack ya gotta dig through the racks, but often you can find great stuff! Loehmann’s is a little more organized (dresses are straight to the back of the store)and has great stuff too.
Prom dress? CHECK! Shoes? UH OH!
North Shore Insider’s got you covered! The BEST places to look for shoes (especially last minute) are DSW Shoe Warehouse (9601 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, Il 60077) and Nordstrom Rack (**fun fact** Nordstrom’s started out as a shoe store—hence the amazing shoes!). DSW has a million shoes, so stop shoe-crastinating GET OUT THERE!

So, your next question: After spending so much time (and $$) finding that perfect dress and shoes, what do you do with it after prom? GIVE BACK! The dress is still practically brand new, and it would be a shame to have such a pretty dress just sit in your closest. It deserves to be worn! The best way to do this: The Glass Slipper Project. The Glass Slipper Project collects new or almost new prom dresses and create “boutiques” around the North Shore. These boutiques are for any girl that can’t afford to buy a prom dress or accessories.
Moms Remember
: Charge those digital cameras! This will be quite the photo-op. And even more importantly: Don’t forget the boutonniere! (I forgot mine and had to go back to get it!) Happy Prom!
