Sales Down 29 Percent Across Chicagoland Region
June 27th, 2008 by JakeSales of single-family homes and condominiums were down by nearly 30 percent across the greater Chicagoland region. According to a report from the Illinois Association of Realtors, the nine-county area saw a 29.3 percent drop in sales in May, when compared to the same month last year.
However, sales actually increased from April, with 13.7 percent more units closing during May. A total of 6,095 single-family homes and condominiums were sold in the region during the month.
Sales were also down sharply across the state during May. According to the I.A.R., statewide sales were down nearly 23 percent from May 2007, but showed a 17.3 percent improvement from April.
Prices were also off during the month, with the median sales price down by 7.3 percent statewide from a year ago. In the nine-county region of Chicago, prices were down just 0.5 percent. The median sales price in the Chicago region was $251,000, while statewide prices stood at $190,000.
