Thirty-Nine Days And Counting…

Even less if you’re bestowing Hanukkah gifts on loved ones!

I have this cute little “Countdown to Christmas” widget on my brand new iMac dashboard - at least it’s cute right now. As the number continues to drop, it could actually become pretty menacing - reminding me how little time I have left to shop. I have nothing done - no shopping, no wrapping, no cards, no cookies. I’m big on working right up against the clock - and going into a wrapping frenzy during the Christmas Eve TBS “A Christmas Story” marathon.

I have made one mental note to self, though - head over to Beat Street in Winnetka for stocking stuffers. I just know they’ll have it going on. All sorts of way cool toys and gadgets to keep the kids busy for a few minutes before they try to drag us out of bed to take on the presents under the tree.

If you go, my only suggestion would be to blow past the paddle balls. I bought one for my oldest son this summer, and my youngest son thought he’d try it out first. He hadn’t been at it for more than five minutes when he came inside crying - apparently, he paddled the ball in such a fashion the elastic string wrapped around his neck and — THWACK! — the little rubber ball hit him square in the eye socket. There was even this perfect little red circle on his face, and a fine red line around his neck. To make matters worse, it happened minutes earlier than I thought, because my darling son had spent a few minutes trying to tie the now-broken elastic string back together, because he felt so bad about it. Knowing he didn’t at all find this funny, I really had to bite my tongue - hard - not to laugh at the mental picture I was creating for myself. On our next visit, we went for the LED frisbee instead
