Deerfield is a scenic wooded community located on the North Branch of the Chicago River. The unique village of just under 20,000 people is a mixture of rustic homes and thriving businesses. The community has successfully preserved its residential core and kept its neighborhoods traditional, tree lined and welcoming. The park district totals some 331 acres with recreational centers and facilities in twenty different areas.
The commercial district of Deerfield is home to several major companies, including Walgreen's. There are five shopping centers that provide a wide variety of shops for visitors to explore.
The Deerfield Center, located on the southeast corner of Waukegan and Deerfield Roads has a number of specialty shops such as Vogue Jewelers and Leather Creations. Shoppers can find everything from quality furniture to name brand watches here.
Deerfield Square shopping center occupies the southwest corner of Deerfield Road and Waukegan Road . Shoppers can browse items in Ann Taylor Loft, Allura Jewelers, Bath & Body Works, Betty Schwartz's Intimate Boutique or Runway Boutique. Many other stores are located at this site and it is a fun way to spend an afternoon in the village.
The Deerbrook Mall on Waukegan Road is yet another stop for visitors. Famous Footware and Carter Children Wear are two of the many stores in this mall. Chances are you can find whatever apparel item you might be looking for here at Deerbrook Mall.

The village of Deerfield hosts a variety of events and festivals throughout the spring and summer months. Deerfield Family Days is held annually on the 3rd and 4th of July. The Deerfield Lions Club organizes this event that features the expected fireworks but also a pancake breakfast, parade and arts and crafts show. Liven up Independence day by spending the afternoon enjoying the vendors and art booths downtown before watching the fireworks display after dark.
Plaza Pleasures is a village standard that takes place every year from June to October on Saturday mornings from 7:00AM to 12:30PM. This farmers market is a favorite among locals who love to wander the Plaza lot and check out the vendors there. Get there early for the best produce and bargains all summer long.
The American Youth Soccer Organization and Deerfield Youth Baseball and Softball Association are planning their summer programs. The Park District is home to these youth games and has been for over fifty years. These summer sports organizations provide a fantastic opportunity for the local youth to interact, develop skills, exercise and have fun. Registration is required, so contact the AYSO or DYBA in advance.
The Deerfield Festival of Fine Arts is a familiar event on the North Shore. The Deerfield Fine Arts Commission sponsors the festival and does an impressive job. Not only are local artists in attendance, but crafts people and artists from across the nation come to this event to display their works. Held the first weekend in June, the festival is located downtown on Jewett Park Drive and Robert York Road. There will be musical entertainment as well as opportunities for children to show their artwork to the public.
The Historical Society Fall Festival takes place in September, date yet to be announced. The event includes food, music, crafts and pioneer history. Step back in time for a day or two and experience life from a long ago period in time. It is a great family getaway and the kids will love it.
