The village of Deerfield, IL is one of the preeminent suburbs that make up the North Shore region of the Chicagoland area. It lies right on the line between Lake and Cook Counties and was first settled by Jacob B. Caldwell in 1835. The actual village was incorporated in 1903 and offers a lot of history to explore and learn about, according to Deerfield real estate agents. Deerfield has a strong corporate presence and is home to the headquarters of Baxter Healthcare, Walgreens, Hewitt Associates, APAC Customer Services, and others, as well as a thriving small business community. Deerfield High School is considered one of the best high schools in Illinois and Trinity International University is located in the village, as well.
Deerfield has approximately 19, 471 residents living within its city limits, which is up almost six percent from census figures taken in the year 2000. The population has a median age of 39.6 years and makes an average of $110,000 annually. North Shore Chicago real estate agents tell that the median value of the houses and condo properties owned by Deerfield dwellers was $470,100 in 2005, which is up quite a bit from $342,900 in 2000. Deerfield is a predominately white community, but there are Korean, Hispanic, and other ethnic groups in the mix here, also. In fact, 8.8% of the folks living in the village are foreign-born, according to Deerfield real estate agents.
Single-family homes rule the real estate market in Deerfield, with almost three times the number available for sale as condos or town homes. Larger homes are the norm here and there are over 100 houses currently for sale that have four or more bedrooms. Home styles found in town include Chateaus, Colonials, Cape Cods, Traditionals, Contemporaries, French Provincials, and others. Many of these homes are newer constructions, built since the year 2000, so the odds of finding a modern dream home are pretty good. There are, of course, vintage homes for sale as well, and Deerfield real estate agents will be glad to help potential buyers choose between new designs and old-school living. Prices range from around $325,000 for the smaller homes up to nearly $10,000,000 for the area’s largest and most luxurious properties. The good news, for those looking for homes, according to Deerfield real estate agents, is that many of the asking prices in Deerfield are coming down a bit and is a buyers market here at the moment. The average time a home spends for sale is 160 days.
Deerfield real estate agents predict there are a fair amount of condo and town home properties for sale in Deerfield, for those who do not want a freestanding house. Just like single-family homes, many of these have been built since the turn of the millennium and it is obvious the area has seen a lot of growth in the 21st century. There are older units from the 1960’s and 1970’s also, and Deerfield real estate agents will again be helpful in determining the type of property best suited to individual buyers’ needs. Prices start out around $190,000 on the low end and rise to $500,000 or more at the top end of the spectrum. The average asking price for these homes is $293, 465 and it seems to be taking about 120 days to sell one.
There are many events and recreational activities to keep residents occupied and enjoying life in the village. Deerfield real estate agents will tell possible area homeowners about Holiday on the Plaza, Deerfield Family Days, the Historical Society Fall Festival, and other public gatherings that are great fun for citizens of all ages. There are lots of shopping options, as well, including Deerfield Center, Deerfield Square, and Deerbrook Mall. The Deerfield village website also lists restaurants in town that cater to every taste, for when folks feel like dining out. Deerfield, like many other North Shore communities, has been featured numerous times in movies and television shows, including “Risky Business” starring Tom Cruise, “Married…With Children,” and the reality show “American High.” The Chicago Bulls practice facility, the Berto Center, is located here and many Bulls players and staffers have called Deerfield home, including former coach Phil Jackson. Other notable residents have been Hamer Guitar company founder Paul Hamer, bodybuilder Cory Everson, and the rock band The Redwalls. Whether potential homeowners are famous or not, they will find a lot to like in Deerfield and the town is worth a look if a move to the North Shore is in their future.
