Evanston Auto Detailing Tips

There are many different theories on cleaning cars interior and exterior, but sharing of industry secrets is prevalent among professional auto detailers in Evanston. For those who have been reading the labels on automotive cleaners and polishes, there are some tips that can make your time as an Evanston shade-tree detailer better spent, producing near professional results.

When detailing a vehicle there is no shortcut for elbow grease and some aspects of the job are going to take time that you cannot avoid spending. Plan on four to six hours from start to finish for a proper detailing job, without cleaning the engine or the headliner of the car. If you live in Evanston, there's probably salt buildup in the tire wells.

Considering that detailing an exterior is fairly straightforward, think about auto detailing tips for the interior. The windows tend to have an area at the very top that accumulates dirt or cigarette smoke. Lower the window slightly and clean that area, then raise the window and clean the rest of the glass. To avoid getting glass cleaner on the interior of the door, which can cause dulling on vinyl and leather, spray the cleaner on your rag and then wipe it on the window. Cleaners are available at many Evanston auto shops.

If you are going to shampoo or steam clean the carpet, especially if there has been a spill between bucket seats, consider removing the seats. The time you spend un-bolting the seats will usually be less than the time it will take to work around them. By having them out of the way you can gain full access to the affected area and do a thorough cleaning job. Just do not forget to bolt them back into position securely and plug in any wiring harnesses you may have unplugged when removing them.

When cleaning the interior carpets, start with the carpet on the driver side of the vehicle. The first section cleaned will be the first section to dry and when the owner returns to drive the vehicle home there is a better chance that portion of the carpet will be dry. Additionally, be sure to remove all excess moisture and carpet cleaners as any residue left over will act as a magnet for new dirt.

When cleaning the engine compartment, be sure to protect the areas where computers or other electronic parts may be located. Typically, they will be near the firewall on the left or right side.

Drape towels or rags over the bumper or grill to prevent damage by the chemicals used on the engine. Always clean the engine compartment first so that any dirt or grease that may happen to land on the outside of the car is removed when washing the exterior. Many car washes in Evanston give you cheap access to a high-pressure hose.
