Comparing Boat Insurance To Home Insurance

It may be surprising to some that despite the rise in homeowner insurance due to natural disasters, like hurricanes, boat insurance has not seen a dramatic rise in Evanston, Illinois.

Boat insurance has not been restricted nor has the costs raised drastically. On the other hand, home owner’s insurance rates have skyrocketed for areas near the coast line and in Evanston, Illinois.

It seems a bit strange that homes near the water are being struck with high insurance while boats that stay on the water are not. It is a weird paradox, but it is the fact.

Boat insurance has remained steady in Evanston, Illinois. The only increases have been seen when a boat travels into open water often.

There have also been some restrictions in coverage to reflect the natural disasters. Like boats traveling in areas during hurricane season may not be covered for damages.

However, despite some extra costs and restrictions, boat insurance has not been as hard hit as home insurance has in Evanston, Illinois.

Home owner insurance has seen drastic rise in cost and in many areas companies no longer offer coverage. This is just not the case with boat insurance for those living in Evanston, Illinois.

Boat owners should be counting their lucky stars. It could be much worse.

The main thoughts behind this odd situation are that boat insurance has not seen such drastic changes because marinas are built to withstand nature while homes are not.

Also the personal property kept aboard a boat is not as extensive as that in a home. The price of replacement is far less.

Marinas also did not experience the widespread devastation that homes did during the recent hurricane season. There were far less claims from boat owners then home owners in the effected regions.

Insurance companies are hitting the market where the most claims were made and that was just not the boating segment.

Boat insurance rates in Evanston, Illinois have gone up steadily every year, which is a normal trend. However, they did not see a sharp jump or experience anything like the home insurance market.

Thinking that getting boat insurance is easier and cheaper than home insurance is enough to make a person decide to take up house in their boat and say goodbye to living on land.

This is something that may soon become a reality if insurance companies continue to pull coverage and raise prices on home insurance.

Meanwhile, boat owners in Evanston, Illinois can rest easy knowing they are not going to be paying more for their boat insurance at least.
