For Indoor Pursuits...
If it’s just too dang cold to be outside, and there will be those days, here’s a few suggestions to keep the kids happy and out of your hair:
Putting Edge, Lincolnshire:

Glow in the dark mini golf at the putting edge!
Mini-golf is usually a summer activity, but why not enjoy it all year long? This is a great place to go on those days off from school, when the wind is blowing and you’re going just a little stir crazy. Depending on the package you buy and the age of your child, kids can cost anywhere from $6.85 - $11.35, while adults are $9.35 - $12.35. (Kids 4 and under play free with a paying adult!)

Kohl Children’s Museum, Glenview:
If you’re looking for an activity that will thoroughly engage younger children – for hours – look no further than Kohl. Keep in mind, this destination is definitely for the younger set, but it’s worth it. Between the pint-sized life-like village to the arts and crafts opportunities and water play, there really is something for everyone. Don’t forget to stop at Kim and Scott’s, too, for a great lunch! Mmmm...pizza pretzels! And coming soon! Clifford the Big Red Dog opens January 21st! Admission is $7.50 for ages 1 - 54, and those 55 and older pay $6.50. Babies under 1 year old are free!

Pinstripes Bowling, Bocce and Bistro, Northbrook:
Yes, Virginia, there is a live action version of bowling that doesn’t involve the Wii! If you want to beat the pants off your kids old school, but in a contemporary setting, check out Pinstripes in Northbrook. It’s certainly not the old-style formica and plastic chairs and tables of the bowling alleys we grew up with – automated lanes, scoring, bumper bowling, great food – it’s all here. And it’s not cheap, so be prepared to drop a few bucks here. Still, it beats another afternoon in front of the TV, no?

Color Me Mine, Ceramic Studio, Glenview:
If your child leans toward the arts and craftsy, there are a number of ceramics painting studios on the North Shore, including Color Me Mine at the Glen Town Center. This winter, they’re offering pre-scholler classes once a week (Thursdays 4:15 - 5:15 p.m.), called “Paint Me A Story.” For just $16, your child can enjoy a different theme each week, and get their arts and crafts time without messing up your kitchen!
