Wilmot was founded in 1835.  It went through a series of name changes until the name Lake Bluff was settled upon.  It was named after Lake Bluff, Massachusetts and due to the large number of deer in the area.

In the 1950’s Lake Bluff was not an integrated community.  A proposal of middle income housing was on the block that would have integrated the city, but it was shot down in favor of building the Mitchell Pool and Park.  The first African Americans did not move to Lake Bluff until the 1960’s.

Lake Bluff passed an anti-smoking ordinance which bans smoking in all public places.  

Lake Bluff is also known for a few other major incidents in the cities past.  IN 1944 a US Navy plane fatally crashed into unoccupied land in Lake Bluff.  Lake Bluff has been the set to numerous television shows and movies.  

Lake Bluff is home to the Chicago Bulls practice facility and there are a number of Bulls players that live in the community.  Additionally, Lake Bluff High School served as a practice field for the Chicago Bears in 1982.

The basic statistics about Lake Bluff shown it is an upper middle class community with strong family ties.  The total housing is a little over 7,000 with the average price at around $450,000.  This price is higher than the county average of a little over $300,000 and almost quadruple the national average of around $174,000.
