The Optima Old Orchard Woods is a condominium project in the Chicago suburb of Skokie. This is the tallest building in Skokie and it takes its name from the Old Orchard shopping center to the east, and the Harms Woods forest preserve to the west. It consists of three twenty-story towers with a striking contemporary design and a total of 691 condo units. The towers are connected with each other by multistory bridge sections which contain condominium units suspended over large gaps. There wonderful sky gardens in the complex. Optima Old Orchard Woods is designed by David Hovey, who is a nationally acclaimed architect.

Each tower has its own two- story, glass-enclosed lobby and fitness center on the penthouse floor, featuring views of the Chicago skyline and the forest preserve. Recreational facilities include a swimming pool and a sun deck. The first building is called Oak Tower and 80% of the units in it are already sold. First move-ins were made in the spring of 2006. Currently, sales have begun for the second tower, called Elm Tower, while no sales have been made yet (due to the schedule) for Maple Tower, the third one.

At Optima Old Orchard Woods, price start from $280,000 for 1-bedroom condominiums and go up to about $699,000 for a three bedroom penthouse with Chicago skyline views. Two-bedroom plans begin in the mid-$300,000s, while the three-bedroom units start in the $460,000s.

The building has landscaped roof terraces, including a large common garden over the low-rise southwest wing. Every unit comes with a single place at the indoor parking garage, included in the price. The other amenities included are a party room and tennis court.

For those who are interested in Chicago condos, Optima Old Orchard Woods may be an alternative. It’s about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and the prices are much lower here than for comparable Chicago places.

The location of Optima Old Orchard Woods is perfect. It is next to Harms Woods, where hundreds of acres of indigenous forestland are preserved against future development. There is a bike trail just steps away from your door, leading to the Chicago Botanic Garden on the exclusive North Shore. Transportation is also good, as residents here are minutes away from the Edens Expressway and arteries leading to every community in the Chicagoland area. The building is quite close to the Old Orchard Shopping Center, which opened its doors to customers in 1956. The center’s 65 stores are connected by stone concourses, and beautified by landscaping of trees and shrubs, flower gardens, fountains, pools and footbridges continue to draw shoppers. It has approximately 1.2 million square feet of retail space and a wide range of high-end stores.
